Thomas’ 4x semi-finalists in 2008 UK Songwriting Contest

For IMMEDIATE RELEASE ~ Newport, Wales, UK (Thomas Standridge Music) September 1, 2008 ~

Songwriting duo Russ Garfield Thomas and Rhonda L Thomas have been declared four time semi-finalists across four categories in the prestigious UK Songwriting Contest (UKSC).

The UKSC attracts the best and the most serious songwriters and support for the competition comes from heavyweights of the music industry, the BRIT Trust (of BRIT Awards fame) and the Guild of International Songwriters and Composers.

The duo’s songs have gained recognition in four different categories of the UKSC: Jazz/Blues, Adult Contemporary, Folk/Country and Open/Misc. Four out of four songs entered into the contest, Men, Least Of All You, Man From Idaho and I Don’t Understand were all named as semi-finalists by the contest judges and were among the top 15 percent of over 6,200 songs. Man From Idaho also recently received an Honorable Mention in the 15th Annual Billboard World Song Contest. Another entry, Song For Leona, inspired by X Factor singing sensation Leona Lewis, was awarded a Highly Commended Entry award in the Instrumental category.

Last year the duo were declared seven time semi-finalists across three categories including Rock/Indie, Folk/Country and Christian/Gospel/Faith. One song, Differently, was a double semi-finalist in both the Rock/Indie and Folk/Country categories.

All the songs were entirely South Wales productions, produced by Russ Thomas at Garleighfield Studios based in Newport. All semi-finalist vocals were performed by Rhonda Thomas, with backing vocals performed by both and a guest appearance on Man From Idaho by John Abbot, member of the popular South Wales choir, New Harmony Singers. The duo has an extensive music catalogue which can be viewed on the Broadcast Music Incorporated website or their own publishing/licensing website, Thomas Standridge Music at The duo are active members of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) and the Americana Music Association.

What’s next? Having just released the debut album Voices Forgotten on July 4, 2008, the focus is now on Russ Garfield Thomas’ next album, Eve’s Well.  A collection of instrumentals, Eve’s Well is scheduled to be released in early spring 2009.
